Saturday Afternoon in the city

My mom and sister came to NYC over the weekend for a visit. We went to one of my favorite places for brunch – the Popover Cafe! We arrived around 11:15am and were seated immediately – no wait! The restaurant is famous for their popovers – giant, hollow pieces of bread that remind me of a cross between french toast and a croissant. Each warm popover is served with homemade strawberry butter, mmm. Popover with strawberry butterFor my entree, I chose the spinach and goat cheese salad (got this last time too!). It’s hands-down one of the best and prettiest salads I’ve ever eaten. The base was a huge mound of spinach topped with red onions, creamy goat cheese, bacon, spiced pears, pecans, strawberries, orange slices, and a mustard vinaigrette on the side. After brunch, we walked down to Lincoln Center to see a matinee of Confessions of a Shop-A-Holic. It was a cute movie – maybe not Oscar material , but I enjoyed it! Post-movie, we paid a visit to the UWS location of Magnolia Bakery. Rachel sampled the vanilla butter cream cupcake, while Mom and I split a piece of Red Velvet Cake and some chocolate milk. I got a deliciously decadent peanut butter-heath bar crunch blondie to take home. It’s currently in my freezer, just waiting to be defrosted and consumed! My sister also got a yummy pumpkin cheesecake to-go. I think our visit was a sweet success!Magnolia CupcakesMagnolia Cupcakesred velvet cake, yum!blondiePumpkin CheesecakeFinally, a trip to H&H Bagels for what-else? BAGELS! I had a whole-wheat one after my 5k/long run on Sunday. Perfectly chewy and topped with peanut butter and jelly!H&H Bagels
