Chocolate makes me pretty happy and beautifully wrapped chocolate truffles are just about the best thing ever. I was very excited to have a package from Cowgirl chocolates delivered last Monday. What a great start to the week! It took all of my self control to wait until I photographed the box before digging in.
Marilyn, the head cowgirl, was nice enough to send me a sampler pack of her delicious candies.
From the Cowgirl Chocolates website:
Cowgirl Chocolates are sweet and spicy gourmet chocolates for adventurous chocolate lovers and packaged as unique beautiful gifts for any and all occasions.
These chocolates were definitely packaged with attention and care! I loved the little gold star that was attached to the gift tag. It made the presentation seem extra special. I would definitely order up some of these sweets as a birthday or thank-you gift.
For my first selection I chose was a “spicy” chocolate wrapped in red shiny paper. Cowgirl chocolates describes this variety as the taste of fresh ripe raspberries blended with a very spicy dark chocolate.
Yum! The chocolate was rich and sweet with a pure raspberry flavor. I noticed the spicy heat on the back of my tongue as the chocolate melted away. So, so good!
The other night Nate tried the (non-spicy) milk chocolate and proclaimed “This is really good”. Nate eats his fair share of candy, so if he says it’s tasty, I believe him!
I just tried the habanero caramel chew and boy, oh, boy! It was very spicy. The Cowgirl website describes this variety as follows:
These fiery caramels could knock you off your horse… wonderful soft, buttery caramels spiced with habanero peppers. They’ll have you lickin’ your lips and shakin’ your hips!
At first bite all I tasted was buttery, sweet caramel. However, after a few seconds, the heat began to grow. Soon, the back of my throat felt like it was on fire. I kind of liked the spicy-sweet contrast, but these are NOT for the faint of heart!

I am going to try and savor the rest of these slowly, but it will be might tempting not to eat them all at once :-)
Thanks Cowgirl Chocolates!
