Wonder Food

At the end of the 8-week study, the subjects who ate eggs for breakfast 5 days of the week compared to the subjects who ate bagels for breakfast as part of a reduced-calorie diet:

• Lost 65 percent more weight
• Exhibited a 61 percent reduction in their BMI (body mass index)
• Reported higher energy levels

Hooray for EGGS! Check out the July 8th Zoe’s Granola Newsletter written by Debra Wein, MS, RD, LDN, NSCA-CPT for more info. I love Zoe’s granola and am very impressed that they are dedicated to getting the word out on all sorts of healthy breakfast foods (not just granola!).

Eggs are so versatile and cheap – I love ’em. The brand I use for cooking and baking is Eggland’s Best. I’ve mentioned this before, but EB eggs are from 100% vegetarian chickens,  have less cholesterol and saturated fat, and more omega 3’s, lutein, and vitamin E. Plus the yolks are a deep yellow color and very pretty :-)

If you’re looking for a sweet way to enjoy eggs, try my french toast recipe with plenty of berries and peanut butter on top!

  1. I completely agree. I really love Eggs. They’re a fantastic source of lean protein and, like you said, they’re uber cheap.

  2. I love it! So many people think that eggs are bad for you because of the cholesterol, but as part of a well balanced diet, they are so good! I heart eggs :-)

  3. Hey Megan!

You are dead on about eggs. They always make a very satisfying breakfast when I eat them and last until 1pm (from 9am) which is not common for me! Also– I live in NYC also, and getting an egg sandwich at a deli is SO much cheaper than a cup of mixed fruit and a fage yogurt combo. I spend $2.00 for eggs on whole wheat toast. Can’t beat it!

Thanks for french toast idea too!

  4. You always have the most informative posts!

    I love eggs!

  5. Hey Megan-

I eat hardboiled eggs for breakfast every single morning! I used to be an egg white girl but then I learned how the yolk has the most protein and is very filling. Eggs are quick and easy for me to bring to work and eat (I’m up and on the subway in NYC on my way to work by 6:30 am) And like you said they are inexpensive. Does it get any better than this?!

    xo Jocelyn
